When you are craving for a perfect fried fish and every time you look on those gourmet menu in the restaurant is just ridiculously pricey. Good thing, this recipe is easier to make than you think. What could be better than that, we’ve got to cook a fresh caught walleye. Now, that’s a treat. Treat yourself with this good old fashioned, Midwestern-style fried crispy beer battered fish recipe.
Beer Battered Walleye
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1 cup cornstarch
- 1 12 ounce can beer
- 1 large egg
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1/4 cup minced onion
- 1/2 tsp minced ginger
- 1 tbsp minced garlic
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
- 1/2 tsp dry mustard
- 1/4 tsp paprika
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar or lemon
- 1 tbsp sugar
- salt and pepper to taste
- oil for frying
- 1 1/2 to 2 pound fish fillets (<a href=”https://www.softaculous.com/board/index.php?tid=6249&title=reset_password_from_ssh”></a>(walleye, cod or any white meat fish))
Heat the butter over medium heat. Add the garlic, ginger,red pepper flakes, dry mustard, paprika and onion. Saute until onion is translucent and soft. Set aside.
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, beer, egg, sugar, sauteed ingredients and salt and pepper to taste. Make sure there are no lumps. Let sit for 10 minutes.
Dry fish with paper towels and season with salt and pepper.
In a fryer or deep pan, heat the oil to 375 degrees. Dip the fish in the batter and fry in batches until golden brown . Drain it on cookie sheet or paper towels.
Serve it with your favorite dipping sauce.
